Republican senators on Thursday narrowly voted to dismantle internet privacy protections put into place during the Obama administration.
The 50-48 vote made mostly along party lines is expected to be mirrored in the House this week, followed by a signature from President Donald Trump.
The rollback would mean companies like Verizon, Comcast or AT&T can continue tracking and sharing people's browsing and app activity without permission.
