China to cut 500,000 heavy industry jobs

China plans to cut another 500,000 steel and coal jobs this year to reduce excess production capacity.

The plans come amid a multiyear effort launched last year to shrink bloated industries.

This year, the campaign to reduce excess production capacity is expected to expand to cement and glass in addition to steel, coal and and aluminum.
