Cabela’s sale delay keeps Bass Pro project on hold

Posted online
A delay in Bass Pro Shops' planned acquisition of Cabela’s is delaying a Bass Pro development in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Bass Pro expected the purchase to close by the end of June. However, a revising filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last month indicated the closing has moved to the end of September.

The Springfield-based outdoor retailer has plans to build a 120,000-square-foot store, hotels and shops at a 75-acre site in bought in 2014. The store originally was slated to open in 2016.

“We have temporarily placed this project on hold to assess our plans and timing,” Bass Pro spokesman Jack Wleizen said. “We remain in close contact with developers and may well proceed with the project at a future time to be determined. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete this review.”
