$900M Medicare fraud takedown charges 301

Federal and state enforcement officials this week charged 301 doctors, nurses and other licensed medical professionals across the country with health care fraud in what the U.S. Justice Department described as the largest coordinated takedown in history.

The alleged schemes cost the government $900 million.

Criminal and civil charges include conspiracy to commit health care fraud, violations of antikickback statutes, money laundering and identity theft.

The types of practices included home health care, psychotherapy, physician and occupational therapy, durable medical equipment and prescription drugs.
